Sterkfontein

Sterkfontein has to be one of the most special places to be at when the fishing is cooking and the weather perfect. Sightfishing utopia and a stunning backdrop is what this place is all about!
I plan on being there around mid december to complete the filming of Safari and Film Africa's latest project-to be released next year autumn. The dvd will cover most of the challenges anglers face at Sterkfontein and will be filled with awesome scenic, wildlife and fishing shots! The edit style will also be slightly against the run of mill stuff like ESA, Jeep and wildfly-a fresh change is in order I think? Yip thats the plan-check out the sight mid Jan as a trip to mozambique is also on the cards for the new year.

Trailer for the dvd to be released next year fall!

Okavango Catfish Run

In September of 08 I travelled up to Botswana to film (safari and film africa) and guide (tourette fishing) on the annual catfish run.

This is when the Sharptooth Catfish form huge shoals, surround and pursue the small baitfish that hide in the structure and where on the periphery Tigerfish lurk waiting for a meal. This is the target species-the striped water dog!

The activity and runs were not as significant as later on in the season but it was still an interesting time and some good fish were landed-10 pounders and some tipping the scales just short of 10 were the order of the day! In between groups I managed to throw a line myself but could only manage a 7lb fish, the nice thing was finally christening my new TFO pro series 9 weight rod! Its a beaut and really has a nice action to work with!

mongolia

In September 2008 I travelled to Mongolia to film a Hangai Argali and Mongolian Wolf Hunt for Dark continent video productions. Once the largest empire on Earth, Ghengis Khan did in 25 years what the Romans took to conquer in 400 years. Today a third of the worlds population live on land once ruled by the Monguls!! Needless to say the Hunt was a success and an impressive Hangai over 52 inches and a nice Wolf at 400 yards were taken.

The people were very friendly but primitive in their customs of course. Since 1991 Mongolia has been a capitalist economy and the Tourism industry is growing rapidly, prior to this the Russians occupied and controlled the country. It was a unique experience and I plan on Returning to try my hand a fly fishing for Taimen-the worlds most aggressive trout!!
